Floodplain Management

Floodplain management is a regular occurrence when developing or redeveloping properties in special flood hazard areas.  Towns that participate in the National Flood Insurance Program must adopt zoning in the form of a floodplain management ordinance.  They must also enforce this ordinance.  Have you had questions about a building or lots compliance with the ordinance?  Have you had to look at or research technical bulletins?  This seminar will help you to navigate zoning ordinances and understand how the FPMO can affect your building and design plans and how that can affect your client as well as you the professional.

Mark Condodemetraky, PE, LLS is President of G.C. Engineering, Inc., a flood consultant located in Laconia, NH.  Mark founded G.C. Engineering with his father George and began specializing in the National Flood Insurance Program.  Mark is a Licensed Professional Engineer in NH, VT and ME, a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor in MA and NH, and is a Licensed Insurance Producer and a Certified Flood Surveyor (CFS) through NSPS.

Along with flood determinations, Mark also specializes in calculating Base Flood Elevations, Elevation Certificates, Letters of Map Amendments (LOMA), boundary surveying, and expert witness testimony reports.  He also sells flood insurance with the Davis & Towle Group to make sure that lenders have the proper coverage for properties in a Special Flood Hazard Area.

Mark also consults for other professionals in need of assistance with floodplain management and regulatory compliance. Mark is the proud father of three boys and lives in Laconia, NH with his wife Andrea, children Lex and Niko and their dog Chester (and two cats).

The Latest in UAV Technology for Surveying Applications

Jamie will discuss the most recent developments in UAV technology for surveying applications. He will describe recent trends which have made UAV technology a more cost-effective, user-friendly high ROI solution for surveying applications.  Among the specific topics will be visual analysis of UAV deliverables, cost examples of lidar and photogrammetry equipment, accuracy expectations, best practice workflows, and more.

Jamie Deiana is a Part 107 certified UAV pilot and has been working in UAV mapping and surveying applications for 8 years.  His experience covers UAV lidar and UAV photogrammetry solutions. This includes the hardware and software required to produce application specific drone deliverables.  Currently Jamie is a UAV hardware, software, and workflow design consultant for Keystone Precision Solutions based in Allentown Pennsylvania.  Keystone has been providing surveying and scanning equipment since 1989.  They offer sales, support, and training for brands such as Trimble, DJI, PIX4D, and Wingtra.  Jamie is located Keystone’s Milford, Massachusetts office serving all of New England.

An Update to GRANIT and its current offerings for Land Surveyors

Chris will walk us through the latest and greatest updates at the UNH GRANIT web portal, and then provide commentary on how best to access several raster and vector datasets.  These data sets can be used by practicing surveyors to support their operations and improve their work products.

Chris Phaneuf began his career at NH GRANIT in October 2000. He began as a GIS Technician, digitizing various features from hard copy maps into a digital format for several GRANIT projects. Since then, he has become the GRANIT Conservation / Public Lands Database manager and has managed several projects including the development of Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRMs) for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Chris received his B.D. in Geography from the University of New Hampshire in 2000.

An introduction to QGIS for the Practicing Land Surveyor

Craig will continue his introduction of QGIS, which was started in The TBM, and will show how best to build a basic database that will be useful for business operations, and how to incorporate some of the datasets into AutoCAD drawings and projects.

Craig Bailey, PE, LLS, Bailey Associates. Craig has focused on the implementation of technology and software to provide better, more effective land development services.  A second-generation land surveyor, Craig had opportunities that most kids didn’t… namely access to AutoCAD version 10!  Since those early days in 1987, Craig has used almost every version of AutoCAD, and has served as a contract consultant to Autodesk, assisting large DOTs with Civil 3D implementation. Craig has spent dozens of hours in the classroom teaching AutoCAD and others – all to improve practitioners’ understanding of software interoperability with respect to the Land Development industry.
